Chris started practice as a civil litigator in 1995. He worked as a staff solicitor for Haig Lyon in central Auckland. Between 1997 to 2005 he combined Civil Litigation and Crown Prosecution work in New Plymouth. Chris was appointed as senior Crown Counsel in 2001 and was a partner in the Taranaki Crown prosecution firm Auld Brewer Mazengarb & McEwen. He has prosecuted all levels of crime including homicide as lead counsel.

Between 2005 and 2015 Chris practised as a Barrister in central Auckland with a practice that combined civil and criminal litigation. Chris has appeared in the Supreme Court on three occasions including in R v Mahomed. R v Y as lead counsel and recently in R v Morton SC 86/2015 where he successfully argued the part of the appeal dealing with evidence of prior sexual experience. Chris has experience in SFO matters, Corrections matters, Civil Aviation prosecutions, Ministry of Business, Innovation & Enterprise prosecutions, Inland Revenue prosecutions, Ministry of Social Development prosecutions and civil actions against the Crown.

Chris appears in the civil jurisdiction of the High Court.
